BHAWANIPATNA: A panchayat samiti member who was allegedly sexually harassed by the local BDO began a fast-unto-death from Tuesday demanding action against the purported culprit.
Puspa Sabar, a woman belonging to a Scheduled Tribe of Duarsuni, said she had lodged a complaint with town police against Bhawanipatna BDO Gyanaranjan Bhanjadeo. The alleged incident took place on November 28, when Sabar had approached the BDO for sanction of construction work on a few houses under Indira Awas Yojna, in her region. She said the police refused to register the case, which forced her to take to protest.
Police said the BDO had also lodged a complaint saying Sabar misbehaved with him during the exchange on the day. When contacted, BDO Gyanaranjan Bhanjadeo declined to speak saying the police is investigating it.
However, police say CCTV footage has apparently revealed that the accounts of both are false. “Both sides are not speaking the truth. As the case comes under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, I have given a report to the SP to make a joint inquiry by an SDPO,” said additional superintendent of police, Akhyaya Kumar Das
