Rehabilitation of distressed farmers of Kalahandi due to heavy floods July-15-18, 2017

by kalahandi info

Dear Sir,

This Petition is on behalf of all the farmers of Kalahandi who have been affected due to the heavy floods.

We, the inhabitants of Karlapat Village(G.P) in Th. Rampur Block- Kalahandi, would like to draw your kind attention to the devastating floods that has recently hit this hilly area between July 15th- 19th 2017. The flood has broken all the records of the past in this backward hilly region. Some people have lost their home, their crops are damaged and their assets are washed away. The affected people are badly in need of foods, shelters, clothes, medicines, pure water etc. Communication to the area is highly affected, newly constructed roads, guard walls, bridges couldn’t stand the catastrophic affect. The M.I Division funded projects, canals and diversions are nowhere to be seen and needs immediate construction and repair post monsoon to facilitate proper irrigation supply for next crops. The miseries of the affected people know no bounds. Crops have been greatly damaged.

In the above circumstances, we earnestly request you to send sufficient relief good to the flood affected people of this area immediately to lessen their sufferings and oblige thereby. We also request the administrative officer in charge to visit the area and assess the affected agricultural land due to sand filling and a significant accumulation of sediment and debris on agricultural land. The floods resulted in severe damage to cultivated khariff crops, particularly rice. Financial help/compensation/crop loan waiver, special assistance to farmers and crop insurance benefit to the beneficiaries at large for the khariff crop damage due to the disaster is also requested. The population of the area largely depends on agriculture, and at this plight the need of rehabilitation of their damaged agricultural land post monsoon is a genuine demand by the farmers of the area. Fulfilling the genuine demands and working towards the benefit of the distressed farmers, would possibly stop them from migrating to other states in search of work with no other option.

Looking forward to a quick and prompt action.

Yours faithfully,
The inhabitants of Karlapat Village/G.P
