Patient dies as oxygen cylinder runs out in ambulance

Bhawanipatna: A critically-ill patient died after the cylinder attached to his ventilator support system ran out of oxygen while he was being shifted to Bhawanipatna hospital in an ambulance 80 kilometres away from Jaipatna in Kalahandi district on Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Gagan Baga hailed from Jaipatna.

Gagan was suffering from brain tumor and admitted to Jaipatna hospital early in the morning, following high fever. The doctors later referred him to Bhawanipatna hospital following which and a 108-ambulance service was arranged for his transportation.

However, the cylinder allegedly ran out of oxygen after covering just six kilometers from Jaipatna following which the patient died.

While tension erupted at the hospital after the incident, the medical authorities started a probe into this matter.
