Odisha in grip of severe heatwave, Bhawanipatna 42.5 degrees Celsius

Bhubaneswar: Fourteen places of Odisha recorded above 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday as there seems to be no respite to the severe heatwave in the coming days.

The people of the western and interior districts of Odisha are experiencing the severest of heatwave conditions.

Reports said Titlagarh and Balangir towns recorded 44 degrees Celsius and 43.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Titlagarh is again the hottest place in Odisha.

The industrial town of Angul recorded day temperature at 43.1 degrees Celsius while Boudh and Sambalpur recorded 43 degrees Celsius each.

The places which recorded temperatures above 40 degrees are: Sonepur 42.8 degrees Celsius, Jharsuguda, Hirakud, and Talcher 42.6 degrees Celsius each, Bhawanipatna 42.5 degrees Celsius, Paralakhemundi 41.2 degrees Celsius and Sundargarh 41 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued orange warning for Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul and Malkangiri districts from 5:30 PM of May 26 to 8.30 AM on May 27.

As the infants and elderly persons are highly vulnerable to the heatwave, they have been suggested to avoid heat exposure and dehydration.

The IMD has predicted thunderstorm with lighting is very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Balangir and Mayurbhanj.

It said heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over some parts of the districts of Bolangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Angul from May 27 to 28.
