Bhubaneswar: The National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO), New Delhi in a press meet today at Lohia Academy alleged State Repression on tribals living in Niyamgiri Hills. “The press meet was based on the investigation report on the atrocities committed by the police and armed forces stationed in Kalahandi and Rayagada districts” said Prof. Amarx Marx, Chair Person of NCHRO. A fact finding team of NCHRO visited Trilochanpur Panchayat and interacted with the affected people, leaders of the Niyamgiri Surakshya Samiti(NSS), S.P of Rayagada and Kalahandi districts and the Sub-Inspector of Lanjigarh police station. After interaction with all the parties, the members of NCHRO alleged violation of human rights by the State Government in the area in supporting Vedanta Company. They have also alleged false and fabricated cases filed against the innocent tribal in the Niayamgiri Hills and framing them as Maoists. In the press meet, the members of NCHRO put forth the following demands before the Govt. of Odisha. 1. To file a kidnapping case against missing of BakaMajhi of Nachiniguda village and to form a special squad to findhim out; 2. CBI enquiry on the fake encounter of MandaKadrakaand unconditional release of the tribal activist DasruKatraka who was falsely indicted and arrested. 3. Withdrawal of all paramilitary forces from Niyamgiri hill and to ensure the safety of the local Adivasi population. 4. To ensure basic amenities in all112 villages of Niyamgiri hills after due consultations with the local people. 5. Based on the recent Supreme Court Order of 6th May 2016 the government should respect the Gram Sabhas’s decision of 2013 and declare Niyamgiri as a mining prohibited zone. 6. To stop State Cooperation to Vedanta and to ensure its total closure. The team Fact Finding Team thanked Mr.Lingaraj Azad, the General Secretary of Samajbadi Jana Parishad and Advisor of Niyamgiri Surakshya Samiti(NSS) for his valuable assistance offered to fact finding team. The other of the fact finding team are RenyAyline, NarendraMohanty, Adv. M.A. Momen Halder and Abdul Hannan, Secretary and members of NCHRO. Besides,the documentary film maker Mr.Jagat Kishore Samal, activist of CAFC was also in the fact finding team.
