Minor Girl Married Off As Elder Sister Flees In Kalahandi, Rescued

Bhawanipatna: A 15-year-old girl was married off to the bridegroom of her elder sister after the latter fled on her wedding day at Malpada village under Badakarlakota panchayat in Jaipatna block of Kalahandi district.

She was later rescued by the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and police from the groom’s house at Tentulikhunti village in Kalampur block of the district.

Reportedly, the groom’s party from Tentulikhunti had arrived to Malpada last night for the wedding but came to know that the bridge had fled from her house.

In order to save face, the bride’s family forced their minor daughter to marry the groom.

On getting information, Jaipatna CDPO Jayanti Behera along with police arrived and rescued the girl from her mother-in-law’s house at Tentulikhunti. CDPO Jayanti Behera said that they can arrange for the girl’s stay in a hostel or she can stay in her house.
