Bhubaneswar: Drought-affected farmers, who are yet to get compensation under Crop Insurance scheme, have started taking to the street at different places in the State.
Farmers of five gram panchayats of Kalahandi district on Saturday staged a road blockade at Bandhabahal in Kalahandi district. Resultantly, traffic on Dharmagarh-Golamunda Road has been severely hit.
“Already one and a half years have passed since crops were damaged due to drought in 2015. We had also given our premium timely. But we are yet to get insurance money,” alleged farmers.
Police have reached the spot and are trying to pacify the situation. However, farmers have demanded that the district Collector come to them and assure them to pay crop insurance money within seven days.
