This is an excellent monument which is located exactly to the west side of the City Palace complex. Maharaja Sawai Pratap had built  this Hawa Mahal in the year 1799 in the pink city of Rajasthan which is jaipur.

This Hawa Mahal has a very marvellous and unique structure  which was brought out from the unique architecture made by a famous architect Lal Chand Usta.

The purpose  of constructing  this Hawa Mahal  was only for the ladies to watch the colourful processions and the daily activities which take place everyday on the main street of the old city of Jaipur.

Construction and Specialities

An excellent architectural structure is none other than this Hawa Mahal which had become an architectural masterpiece.

The style of this incredible architecture Hawa Mahal does not match with any other monument in the whole country. This hawa Mahal is a five storeyed structure which is made up of sandstone with the colours red and pink.

The look of this monument will be exactly like a crown of Lord Krishna. The influence of the architectural styles of Mughals and the traditional Rajputana artistry is clearly understood in this structural monument which is honey-combed.

It looks like a screen form outside by 953 small casements with the tiers one after another because of the architectural design which is totally unique. There are arched roofs, small balconies and tiny windows in each and every casement.

The circulation of cool breeze can be done by these small windows of this palace in all seasons including summer. Hawa mahal is the name of this palace which means “The Palace of Wind” exactly.

This is a thin shield with the height of fifty feet which has the thickness of one foot with the mass of the bays which are semi-octagonal.

The domes and the sandstone grills which are carved give this palace a unique attraction. The three floors which are on the top are just single room thick which are having two courtyards at the base. This Hawa Mahal palace was not built for the purpose of residence which can be clearly understood from the design of its architecture.

One more important and amazing attraction is that this Hawa Mahal has some chambers which are plain from the rear side with the complete disappearance of ornamentation. There is a small archaeological museum also inside the Hawa Mahal which is one of the important buildings. The collection of terracotta antiquities are wonderfully present in this museum.

Some other valuable articles like fish hooks , arrow heads, swords helmets etc which were being used by maharajas of Jaipur were also exhibited excellently in this museum. There is a mandir also in this Hawa Mahal which is well-known as Pratap Mandir which is behind the Hawa Mahal and exactly adjoined to this museum.
