Introduction

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is a tourist place in India which is very significant and religious. The dedication of this great religious structure was done  to Sri Harikishen Sahib  who was the eighth Sikh Guru. There is a Connaught Place Market in New Delhi near which this Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is situated. Thousands of people visit this religious place of worship everyday which has progressed into a centre of pilgrimage.

 This is a holy place for the people from different kinds of religions, places and castes. This Gurudwara Bangla Sahib  is very popular place in Delhi. this place is always crowded with people of various religions and supremacies. Guru Harikishen Dev who was the 8th Guru of the Sikhs had lived in a house on which this Gurudwara Bangla Sahib  was built.

In the year 1664 this Guru Harikishen Dev  had to visit Delhi as he was called by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. There is a tank which can cure people from dangerous diseases like Cholera and Smallpox, is being seen in the compound of the temple today also.

History

Guru Harikishen was called by Aurangzeb to New Delhi. Mirza Raja Jai Singh  entertained this Guru Harikishen very royally in his own palace with Diwan Dargah Mull, Bhai Gurditta Ji , Bhai Mati Das Ji and the mother of the Guruji. In the memory of Guru Sahib the conversion of this beautiful structure was done into a Gurudwara. That was the reason its being called as Gurudwara Bangla Sahib till date.

Construction and Specialities

The construction of this incredible structure is really amazing. All the devotees who visit this place will take a dip in a pond which is said to be holy. This holy pond is also known as  “Sarovar”. In this shrine the celebration of the birth anniversary of Guru Sri Harikishen Sahib and the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singhji is done every year.

There is a hall on the east side of the complex which is a community kitchen hall  which is also known as “langar”. No diversions of creed , caste and status are seen or shown here and the service of the free food is done to all the devotees.  Conservative clothes are to be worn while visiting the main complex only having covered  the head, legs and shoulders and bare-footed.

The main hall of this shrine is very simple. There is a small golden dome which was sporting a sculpted bronze cupola , is covering the open central shrine of this Gurudwara Bangla Sahib. In the Gurudwara Complex there is a museum named Baba Baghel Singh Museum. There is also a library , a hospital and a higher secondary school in this complex.

How to reach and Exact Location

One can reach New Delhi through air , road or train from all over India.

After reaching Delhi one can take local buses or hire taxis , auto- rikshaws etc to reach the Gurudwar Bangla Sahib from anywhere in the city.
