Bhawanipatna: Junagarh Police launched a probe into the incident of gang rape of a girl, whose video went viral, after the family members of the survivor lodged a complaint.
According to reports, the miscreants, with covered faces threatened the girl and her male friend with sharp weapons. The incident is said to have taken place in Jaring forest near National Highway-26 between Junagarh and Bhawanipatna.
Reportedly, the girl was returning from Bhawanipatna on a bike with a male friend on 14th September when the miscreants stopped them and executed the crime.
Meanwhile, police has detained the male friend of the girl who was accompanying her from Bhawanipatna for questioning.
“As per the complaint, the girl was travelling with the accused and four persons later took her to an isolated place and raped her,” said B Gangadhar, Kalahandi SP.
Chairperson of Odisha Commission for Women, Minati Behera will visit the spot tomorrow to take stock of the situation. She has directed the police to take appropriate steps to stop circulation of that viral video.
In the meantime State Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra said, “I have spoken to the SP and ADG Crime, asked the district administration to submit a report on this.”
In another incident of gang rape in Sundergarh, Tangarpali Police had nabbed two minor boys on charges of gang raping a minor girl on July 31.
