BHAWANIPATNA: After the Rural Development (RD) department blacklisted Suraj Enterprises, a firm owned by a local contractor Bunti Agarwal, for allegedly submitting fake records of Term Deposit Rates (TDRs) to procure some key tenders in the region, the Public Works Department (PWD) on Saturday initiated action against the firm.
Executive Engineer of PWD Ajit Babu has filed an FIR at Bhawanipatna Town police station alleging that Agarwal and his firm had cheated the department by depositing fake TDRs during finalisation of tenders. The firm had submitted fake TDRs for 48 projects valued at `2.48 crore against earnest money deposit. A case has been registered and police have started investigation.
Babu said the incident came to light after his office sent some TDRs submitted by the contractor to the bank for authentication in June. The firm had submitted these TDRs during tender stage which is 2 per cent of tender value of the works. Similarly, TDRs submitted by other contractors are under scrutiny, he said. Earlier, the RD department had also cancelled eight work orders of the firm. However, the department is yet to take any legal action against the contractor.
Meanwhile, the firm’s office, located at Irrigation Colony here, was found to be locked.
Sources said the firm has been undertaking high value works of RD, PWD, NHAI and other agencies in Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangpur and Balangir districts. The contractor is backed by influential people, locals said and demanded CBI or Crime Branch probe into the case.
