Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das’ recent demand for separation of Kalahandi district from Odisha to form a special State has invited severe criticism from different quarters in the State.
“The Congress has no issue to raise against the State Government. It has been indulging in dirty politics for which people have rejected it.
As a senior leader, Bhakta Das should not have made such a statement (formation of special Kalahandi state). Congress is doing only opportunistic politics,” said Dibyashankar Mishra, BJD spokersperosn.
Leading a Padyatra from Dana Majhi’s village to Bhawanipatna , Das vented his ire saying that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are sitting silently when Prime Minister of some foreign countries have extended support to Dana Majhi, who had carried his wife Amanga Dei’s body and walked down 12 km till a private organisation came to his support with an ambulance.
Dana Majhi had to carry his wife’s body reportedly after he was denied a mortuary van or an ambulance on August 24 morning.
“The Kalahandi issue has attracted attention of Prime Ministers of foreign countries where as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have sat silently. If you don’t extend support, then make Kalahandi a separate State,” Das told reporters.
