BHAWANIPATNA:Paddy procurement began in Kalahandi district on Wednesday.Collector Anjan Kumar Mallick, who kicked off the process at Junagarh Regulated Marketing Committee (RMC), provided sale token to four farmers on the occasion. He said steps have been taken by the administration to make the procurement process smooth and transparent.
During the current kharif crop season, paddy was grown in 1,92,892 hectors and the tentative production is 5,87,714 tonnes. To participate in the procurement process, 47,933 farmers have registered their names online. Paddy will be procured by 74 primary agriculture cooperative societies ( PACS) through 150 paddy purchasing centres. Out of these, 39 PACS will procure in Dharamgarh sub-division through 91 paddy purchasing centres and 35 PACS will procure in Bhawanipatna sub-division through 59 paddy purchasing centres.
RMCs and PACS will provide the required infrastructure facilities to the farmers in the paddy purchasing centres, including temporary storage space, resting sheds, tarpaulin and polythene sheets to cover purchased paddy and drinking water facilities, sources said. Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh Y Vijaya and District Civil Supply Officer Siba Prasad Dora were present.
