There is still no road connectivity in remote areas in many parts of the State, for which the expectant mothers are carried to hospitals in pitiable conditions.
Another such instance was reported at Litibandei village under Lanjigarh block in tribal district of Kalahandi where a pregnant woman was transported in a cot as there was no access to an ambulance due to absence of roads to the village.
According to reports, the family members of Manjula called for an ambulance after she had labour pain on Saturday. They waited for hours for the ambulance, but it could not reach. They were forced to carry Manjula in the cot and reached the Lanjigarh main road crossing hills and a river. It was only from Lanjigarh, the woman was taken to the nearest Government hospital by an ambulance.
As the roads have been damaged due to heavy rains in the remote areas, it has become difficult to operate ambulance service in these villages, said Kalahandi CDMO Jagulal Agarwal.
“However, we are trying to provide stretchers in cut off areas very soon,” he added.
